Container configuration

Overview of the per-container settings exposed by the Stack Harbor PaaS dashboard — variables, links, volumes, ports, run config, file manager, logs, and SSH access.

Stack Harbor PaaS exposes a unified set of configuration controls for every container — certified, custom Docker, or VPS. This page is an index of what’s configurable per container and where to find it.

Topology Wizard configuration sections

When you create or modify a container layer, the Topology Wizard opens a configuration frame at the bottom with five sub-sections:

  • Variables — environment variables exposed inside the container. Defaults are populated from the image manifest; you can add, edit, and remove custom variables.
  • Links — declare a container’s dependency on another container in the same environment. Linked containers’ variables become available with a prefix.
  • Volumes — mount points for persistent data: local filesystem, a dedicated data container, the layer’s master container, or an external NFS server.
  • Ports — exposed ports and traffic auto-redirect behavior.
  • Run Configuration — image tag, entrypoint, CMD, and other Docker-level run flags.

Each section is documented in the linked pages.

Dashboard-level tools

Beyond the wizard, the dashboard exposes a few always-available tools per container:

  • File manager — browse, edit, and save files inside the container’s filesystem without SSH. Available via the Config button on any container or layer.
  • Logs — view active and rotated log files. Logs over 50 MB are auto-compressed and moved to rotated_logs/, then kept for seven days before removal.
  • SSH access — direct shell into any container, with or without an external IP, via the SSH Gate or Web SSH.

CLI client

For automation, the platform ships a CLI that mirrors the API. Anything you can do in the dashboard is scriptable from the CLI, and the command structure matches the API hierarchy.
